Matt founded Epoch Realty Company in 2009 and serves as its operating principal, overseeing strategic direction and all aspects of investment and development execution—including acquisitions, entitlements, structuring, and partner coordination. Epoch operates as a disciplined, boutique platform focused on complex, entitlement-driven and opportunistic real estate investments.
In 2014, Matt also co-founded Insight Realty Company, a multi-partner investment platform. Across both firms, he has worked with institutional and private capital partners and led execution across diverse asset types, market cycles, and partnership structures.
Prior to forming Epoch, Matt served as Senior Vice President at Foster Enterprises, the privately held company responsible for developing Foster City, California. Reporting to the firm’s General Partners, he oversaw investment and development activities across the portfolio and played a senior role in project execution and JV equity structuring.
Earlier in his career, Matt practiced real estate and corporate law at Cooley’s Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices and at Carr McClellan in Burlingame. His practice included real estate, venture capital, and corporate securities—experience that continues to inform his approach to transaction structuring, governance, and risk management.
Over his career, Matt has invested in or advised on more than 3 million square feet of real estate projects with gross development value exceeding $2 billion.
Before beginning his real estate career, Matt served six years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps in ground intelligence and security roles, completing extended tours in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, including service with Task Force Grizzly during Operation Desert Storm and counternarcotics operations with Joint Task Force Six.
Matt earned his J.D. from UC Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. from the University of Nevada, Reno. Matt is a licensed California attorney (inactive) and real estate broker.
Matt lives in San Mateo, where he and his wife of more than 25 years raised their four children. When not living and breathing real estate, he can be found mountain biking, skiing, dirt biking, and boating across the Western U.S.
